Ugh

Back in November while on our way to Speech Therapy for Olivia, my car started to overheat and the battery light came on. I pulled over, turned it off, waited, checked out the engine to see if it really was overheating. When I tried to start it back up, it was totally dead. Had it towed back to the house. We are going to get rid of it because Rich has decided that at this point it will just become a money pit and doesn't want to worry about it. So, for about a week or so, I arranged rides to go places while I learned to drive a manual so that I could drive the Jeep everywhere.
So it really worked out. I got new tires for it, and oil changed, as well as other fluids (differential, etc.). I had decided awhile ago to drive to Utah for Christmas to spend it with family and friends. The drive up was fine, just long. On Christmas Eve, while on the way to visit some family, I got distracted for a split second and looked down. When I looked back up I was bearing down on a curve, and there was an island with a sign in the middle of the road. I swerved to avoid it, overcorrected, and lost control. I slammed into a tree on the driver's side. It hit right by the roll bar, so I wasn't seriously injured. I hit my elbow hard, and got some bruises, but that was it. Olivia was in her car seat, on the other side. She was just shaken up and scared. She did have a slight bruise on her shoulder/collarbone where the strap had held her in.
I got checked out at the ER later in the day to make sure there wasn't more serious, hidden injury.
The insurance decided to total the Jeep after the estimate came in at $12,000 minimum and at least 30 days repair. Fortunately, we got a LOT more than we owed on it, and then some. Pulling together a bit more, we had $10,000 down. Its been a nightmare, and quite a bit of stress, and unhappiness. Rich is pretty pissed off, since it was his car and he loved it. But, better that me and Olivia are ok.
Today, I had someone tend Olivia, while I went and got pre-approved for the loan, then to the dealership. I got a 2007 Audi A4. Its nice, and Rich had gone online and looked at it, so he basically picked it out. He'd also liked another car, which I drove, but didn't like as much. It sucks that we had to go through this, but its made me stronger, and more than ever, I know that the Lord and his angels are watching over me.
